discipleship
There is a radical difference between what Jesus called us to be and what we have become. Jesus never called us to sit in a building for one hour a week, or put our name on the membership roster of a religious institution. Instead, He called us to be disciples and to make disciples (John 8v.31-32, Matthew 28v.19) and discipleship is not just about WHAT you believe but about HOW you believe, or more specifically, HOW YOU LIVE YOUR LIFE.
Jesus’ initial call to His disciples wasn’t “believe in Me”, it was “Follow Me” – in effect, “do what you see Me doing.”
Because of this we are committed to living in community with one another and to serving our community – not in the hopes of getting some opportunity to share a Gospel ”sales pitch” but in the belief that the act of loving and serving people IS sharing the Gospel. When people are shown love and compassion it stirs hope within them and the desire to seek this God whose people love them so much.
Learning to serve makes us more like Him:
“For even the Son of Man came not to be served but to serve others” – Mark 10v.45a
missional communities
We are committed to serving as a lifestyle and to encourage those around us, both inside and outside of the church community, to adopt a lifestyle of serving. By doing this we believe we can serve our community to change our world. To help us do this we are beginning to form unique and exciting groups that consist of diverse but like minded folks who serve, study, eat, pray and laugh together regularly – we call these groups Missional Communities.
Please understand that a Missional Community is NOT just an another Bible study or church small group, but rather this is a call to “drop your nets” and follow Jesus on a much deeper level.
Our belief is that the result of this will be significant personal growth for ourselves as we commit to a more authentic life as a disciple of Jesus, and also for others as God uses this process to draw them into a more profound experience of discipleship by connecting to God, to each other, and to Allegan in Missional Communities.
If you’re interested in finding our more about Missional Communites you can contact us or better yet just start doing it and invite others to join you.
